Thousands Flee Mozambique Floods
Save The Children/Mansir Petrie
24 de Julho

Belina, age 5, plays by her family’s pig sty. Her family came to the 24 de Julho resettlement area in the Zambézia province two weeks ago by canoe. They carried with them the pigs you see in the picture, chickens and buckets. But, all their grain was lost in the floods. In order to buy grain here in the camps, her father, Antonio Jemusi, has to do odd-end jobs, such as working in a local farm in order to pay for corn, which costs 150 MT (6 $US) per can – and only lasts the family about 2-3 days.
