Week 1: Welcome to Angola

Teenager Carlos Mezenga spends his spare time informing other children about their rights. In this space, you can follow Carlos's blog, writing about life in Angola.

Hi.

My name is Carlos Alberto Mezenga. I am 17 years old, and I have been producing programmes for Uíge Radio for three years. I come from Angola.

Today, I want to tell you a bit about Angola, this being the first time that we meet. It's a third world country (in need of your help), which has gone through more than 30 years of war. It covers an area of 1.246.700 sq. km. (481.354 sq. miles), and is inhabited by 14 million people.

So, your contributions will help us rebuild Angola.

PS: Every week, I will tell you more about Angola. For instance about education, health, agriculture and so forth.

Next time I write, you will be able to read about education in Angola. So don't miss out, lots more to come!!!!!!!!

See you.

"Back to school" is the children of Angola's first wish for their future. "A roof to sleep under" is the second wish. To attend school they need to be registered. To be registered they need a home. Pencils and books cost money. It may not be much to you, but it is an enormous amount to the street children of Uíge.
