What is ARC?

A Flexible Resource

ARC provides a flexible resource of materials for training as well as broader capacity building activities. By engaging staff in identifying and addressing critical issues affecting children and encouraging dialogue, including with children themselves, the programme aims to be a catalyst for effective prevention and response activities.

Depending on the profile of the target group, as well as the political, economic, social, and cultural context of the particular region or country, learning needs can differ greatly. Facilitators are encouraged to adapt the materials accordingly.

The materials are not only of relevance to formal training events and in developing broader learning opportunities, but also as a basis for workshop discussions or simply as a reference resource for staff and managers working on specific children's issues.

Why Training and Capacity Building?

  • It allows a common base of understanding for developing programmes on behalf of children.
  • It has been identified as one of the largest gap areas in the provision of child protection during emergencies.
  • It raises awareness of the issues that children may face with a view to ensuring that programmes respond to these concerns.
  • It generates dialogue in a particular situation and therefore the possibility of finding appropriate responses and solutions.
  • It ensures sustainability in that local structures are empowered to respond to their own issues of concern.
