The Save the Children Business Alliance

Save the Children is a story of humanity that inspires and unites hundreds of thousands of donors around the globe who believe all children are equal irrespective of gender, colour, nationality, religion or political opinion, that all deserve protection and have the right to have their basic needs satisfied, be heard and realise a future, for children are our future.

The Save the Children Australia Business Alliance is a new chapter in this story.

It brings together key Australian corporate leaders whose long-term vision encompasses both economic and social development for Australia and its neighbours and who recognise the importance of today's children in this context.

The Save the Children Australia Business Alliance is an invaluable, voluntary networking group of influential Australians who want to make a broader contribution to society. They have four key objectives in relation to supporting Save the Children Australia’s work, both within Australia and abroad:

  1. to partner (financially)
  2. to lobby (politically)
  3. to advocate (within the community)
  4. to promote (socially)

The corporate support and leadership provided by the Save the Children Australia Business Alliance will help Save the Children Australia fight for children’s rights and deliver immediate and lasting improvements to children’s live worldwide.

Membership of the Alliance is a practical way for corporate Australia to invest in our long term future and demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of children in Australia and overseas.

If you believe every child deserves a chance and would like to alleviate the poverty of opportunity that faces some of our most disadvantaged children, then join me today and invest in programs that create lasting change; become a member of the Save the Children Business Alliance.

Russell Caplan – Chairman, Save the Children Australia Business Alliance

Investing in Australia's Future

Investing in Australia’s Future is a new initiative that will establish three new Australian programs; one in remote Australia (the east Kimberly region), one in rural Australia (Victoria’s Greater Shepparton region) and one in urban Australia (the western suburbs of Melbourne). Based on the experiences and successes of these pilot programs, Save the Children plans to replicate them in other Australian states to ensure disadvantaged children around the country are able to access the benefits.

Each program seeks to provide Australian children with essential life skills and education and a safe, nurturing community that promotes their growth and development thus enabling each young person to achieve their potential.

The Business Alliance will help us realise these programs. We are also developing community partnerships to implement them.

Becoming Involved

Benefits
Working with Save the Children creates opportunities and benefits not only for the young people and communities that we invest in but also for the staff and business partners of supporting organisations who can be directly involved.

Joining the Business Alliance creates opportunities to:

  • Become a neighbour of choice within the community in which you work by investing in the development of local youth and your future human resources
  • Demonstrate to staff, clients and stakeholders that you value your local community
  • Enhance corporate image and brand reputation through local and national media coverage of your partnership activities
  • Build staff morale and team work through a sense of common purpose and commitment to improving children’s lives through staff fundraising, workplace giving and innovative staff community engagement activities
  • Develop new skills amongst staff
  • Network with other companies and create platforms for dialogue with influential bodies.

Opportunities for staff involvement

By working in partnership with Save the Children, your organisation can reach out to young people within the communities where you work and make a long term investment in an area of vital importance to your business – your future human resources.

Save the Children will work closely with you to maximise opportunities for staff involvement. While direct involvement will initially be limited  to staff in the pilot program areas (until these are expanded to other regions), opportunities exist for staff in other locations to be involved via fundraising activities such as workplace giving and national Save the Children events such as Save the Children Week. Specialist activities such as printing, website and marketing/communications support could be provided from other key locations.
