The Youth Peer Education Project aims to empower young people through awareness raising, training and peer education programs. The project involves a youth group, known as FLAMES (an acronym for Friendship, Leadership, Action, Motivation, Education and Success) teaching their peers about issues such as HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, drug abuse and trafficking. Live performances, national events and study visits are used to get their messages across to young people. FLAMES members also provide training and support to local government staff and volunteers from Save the Children’s Child and Youth Development Centres, who then conduct their own peer education activities.
