Education is a fundamental human right, however over 77 million children have never been to school. Save the Children Canada reaches out to the most marginalized girls and boys - those who are not in school or who have dropped out of school due to issues of discrimination, abuse and exploitation. Save the Children Canada believes that providing relevant and appropriate education and life skills for children, is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty.

An Education Focus in Our Programs Around the World
Increasing access to relevant and quality education, literacy, and skills training for children and youth are the goals of our education projects. Our work is targeted toward ensuring that all children receive basic education that is relevant for their future, and to build education infrastructure that is nationally sustainable.
Where we work:
- To enhance the formal education system to provide access to quality education. We work with teachers to ensure an inclusive environment for all children, including disabled and indigenous children and provide school materials and textbooks for children. A variety of formal and non-formal educational services are provided depending on the specific needs of the children. In focus: programs in Haiti
- We provide life skills and vocational training to children who cannot afford to continue with secondary education or have missed their levels of primary school. Read Henang's story of escape from Guerrillas in Nepal
- Two-thirds of the world's 875 million illiterate adults are women. Significantly more girls than boys ,fail to complete primary school. Discrimination, social traditions, and deep-rooted religious and cultural beliefs often prevent girls from attending school. Save the Children works hard to remove obstacles that prevent girls from receiving an education. Read Sarah's Story from Southern Sudan
