East Africa

East Africa is a geographically and ethnically diverse area, and one of Africa's most troubled regions. Natural disasters, war and HIV/AIDS have left millions of people struggling under extreme poverty. Save the Children Canada works in Ethiopia and Kenya on long-term development projects to provide children with support to help them survive and thrive.

We focus on

  • improving families' access to food and clean water
  • improving the education system and access for displaced children
  • combatting HIV/AIDS and stigma through community engagement
  • working with governments and partners on child protection and child rights
  • Climate change impact in the region   175 Million Children Endangered  (April 2007 Report)

Save the Children also provides significant funding for emergency aid to the region. Please visit our Emergencies Section for detailed information on our recent emergency programs in Kenya and Sudan
