Save the Children Finland in Ethiopia

Save the Children Finland in Ethiopia

Through its more than 80 years of operation, Save the Children Finland has supported and empowered children in difficulties both in Finland and abroad. In Ethiopia, Save the Children Finland has worked since 2001, first in collaboration with Save the Children Denmark and since 2004, as an independent organization.

Since then it has accomplished a project on promotion of Equality in Basic Education in the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNPRS) for the past three years, 2005-2007.  Upon successful completion of this project, it underwent another process to bring about a three years child rights based program for the years 2008-2010 focusing on two main areas:

  • Promotion of Quality Basic Education;
  • Protection of children from gender based violence, child labor and discrimination from disability

Various projects are embedded under these two main thematic areas and are to be implemented in three Woredas of the SNNPRS and in two Woredas of the Amhara region.  Furthermore, we also avail funding and human resources to join emergency and food security endeavors of the Alliance members.

Save the Children Finland Ethiopia country Office works in partnership with local NGOs as well as governmental agencies. In addition, we take part in joint Alliance projects.

Save the Children Finland is grateful for the all guardians, private companies and donors in Finland as well as for the Government of Finland for enabling us to work for improving the lives of children in Ethiopia.
