Save the Children Sweden in Ethiopia

 

The Ethiopia Country Program of Save the Children Sweden is part of the Eastern and Central Africa (ECAf) regional program. SCS mainly works with local partners to achieve the goals it has set out. Save the Children has been working in Ethiopia since 1965. The organisation focuses on building the capacity of local people, community based structures and organisations. In ECAF it works with more than forty different non-governmental and governmental bodies.

Main Focus

Main focus of Save the Children Sweden's work in Ethiopia is on:

1. Child Protection: To ensure that an increased number of vulnerable children and youth are protected from sexual abuse, physical and humiliating punishment or other violence, and from getting into conflict with the law.  Those who are victims of violence are supported and rehabilitated.

2. Education: to ensure that more children affected by discriminatory practices have access to education where children have influence and actively participate.

3. Child rights programming: To ensure that:

  • Child rights programming is integrated into SCS and its partners' programmes.
  • The judicial system, governments and communities take the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and African Charter (AC) into account in planning, decision-making, and resource allocation.
