Save the Children Fiji’s projects and activities include:
Child Rights Awareness and Training – Through general advocacy, research, education and training we aim to protect children at risk of abuse, exploitation and violence. Children’s participation is brought to the forefront through the facilitation of children’s forums and the ongoing activities of our child-led initiative Kids Link Fiji
Early Childhood Education – The Mobile Playgroup Programme provides basic education for economically disadvantaged children, using a mobile kindergarten facility which integrates community development with educational objectives that support both children and their families.
Research and Advocacy – Our research projects provide the information necessary to advocate for policy changes to bring about improvements to children’s lives. Our publications include Keeping Children at School, Impacts of the Political Crisis on Children, Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children, Emotional and Physical Punishment of Children.
Schools Development Programme – Save the Children Fiji, has assisted over 200 schools since the programme was initiated in 1998. Through projects funded by donor agencies schools have benefited through a textbook hire scheme, provision of water tanks for schools in drought prone areas, dormitory and classroom furniture, library blocks and books, sanitation projects and classroom block construction.
Emergency Relief – In instances of emergencies and natural disasters, we provide support for children in the form of a school feeding programme, bus fare assistance, clothing, stationery and school books as well as school fees. Our humanitarian assistance focuses on strategies to minimise the immediate effects of natural disasters on vulnerable groups of children. The rebuilding of schools affected by natural disasters is one our priorities.
Special Children’s Fund – Provides assistance for exceptionally disadvantaged children
Marketing and Fundraising Programme – This programme has been set up to plan and implement activities to raise funds to support our work. Everyone can be involved in making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children.
Education & Information – Save the Children Fiji produces informative, educational, communicative materials to accompany the organisation’s awareness programmes.
