Industry supports Flood relief in West Bengal |

Confederation of Indian Industries West Bengal Council (CII WBC) has supported Save the Children's appeal for relief work with flood victims in East Medinipur district of West Bengal with a donation of Rs 107,000. CII WBC donations will contribute to Save the Children's work to help 3000 children living in temporary shelters in areas of WB still inundated with flood waters. The donation cheques were presented to Mr. Manabendra Roy at an interactive session between the CII WBC members and the Mayor of Kolkata to discuss infrastructure issues in Kolkata. Speaking on the occasion the Mayor "urged members of the CII WBC to visit Save the Children's project area to appreciate the situation of the inhabitants and the progress being achieved by Save the Children. In informal discussions after the interactive session CII WBC members praised the work of Save the Children in both their flood relief and work against child labour."

Save the Children has been in partnership with CII West Bengal to address the issue of child labour in the State. CII West Bengal and Save the Children have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding and to collaborate with the Dept. of Labour, Govt. of West Bengal to address child labour in the state.
Sensitization event for CII members was organized on the International Child Labour day on 12th of June. It was agreed on this day that the respective industry members will be signing of a Code of Conduct. This would entail creation of models of child labour free production and supply chains. The Code of Conduct is also likely to state that CII West Bengal members will provide and mobilise financial support for education, skill training and healthcare of child labourers and out of school children and layout guidelines to ensure rehabilitation of current child labourers.
