1,469,000 people in 1081 villages in 13 districts in Bihar are currently affected by flooding according to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.  225,192 houses have been damaged and 57,411 people have been evacuated. Areas only 5km from Patna have been flooded.  Victims are without shelter, food, clean water or medical care.A three kilometres breach in the Kosi River Embankment flooded northern Bihar and the breach is growing at 200 meters per day. If the breach reaches the Bhimnagar barrage, only 12km away, it might collapse, leading to drowning of nearly six densely populated districts.  The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitesh Kumer, has called the flood devastation a "catastrophe".
