Save the Children US began work in Nepal in 1981 and steadily expanded its activities to over more than 20 districts in the past 20 years. Recognised areas of expertise include child survival, HIV/AIDS prevention, non-formal education, early childhood development, micro-finance and capacity development of non-governmental organisations.

Save the Children US in Nepal has entered its 20th year. Starting from a single Village Development Committee (VDC) in Gorkha District, Save the Children US at present has a range of multi-sector programmes that cover more than 20 districts with over 700,000 beneficiaries. Based upon the principles enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Save the Children US effectively and efficiently designs, implements and manages quality, action-research, results-based programmes that promote women's empowerment as well as children's development. Children are the central focus of all its activities and the programmes are designed to secure the well-being of the world's poorest children by strengthening their own capacity as well as the capacity of caring adults, communities and partner organisations to improve education, health and economic opportunities for children and their families.
