What is a MUAC band?

It's every parent's fear - that their child won't have enough to eat.

But often, situations beyond their control mean that their children become malnourished - war, climate change, or a global pandemic.

Save the Children health workers often use something called a MUAC band to assess children for malnutrition. These Middle Upper Arm Circumference bands are used to measure a child's arm to see if they're growing sufficiently for their age. Green indicates that they're doing well, amber is a warning, and red indicates that a child is severely malnourished.

If that's the case, the child needs urgent treatment to get them back on track.

We need your help to provide children with trained healthworkers who can give them the tratment they need. Please donate now.
