Every war has a cost. Children are paying the biggest price.
Across the Middle East and wider region, children have been killed, injured and forced from their homes since conflict escalated at the end of February.
Schools, hospitals and water systems have been destroyed. The Strait of Hormuz has been blocked for months, triggering worldwide stock-outs and spiralling costs of essential goods. Food, fuel and medicine supplies are running dangerously low. Aid deliveries are delayed, and families already facing hunger are being pushed beyond breaking point.
For children, these shortages can quickly become life-threatening.
When fuel runs out, hospitals lose power. Clean water stops flowing. Aid trucks cannot reach families trapped without food or medicine.
At the same time, military spending continues to rise while humanitarian funding is cut.
Children should not pay the price for political failure.
We are calling for urgent action.
World leaders must:
- Ensure the opening of the Straight of Hormuz so that food, fuel, medicines and humanitarian supplies can safely reach children and families.
- Secure a permanent region-wide ceasefire to protect children from further violence. Temporary pauses are not enough.
- Uphold international law and stop attacks on children, schools and hospitals.
The longer leaders delay, the greater the cost for children.
