EVERY CHILD, EVERYWHERE, HAS THE RIGHT TO A QUALITY EDUCATION.

A leader in child education around the world, Save the Children works with children, families, schools and communities, as well as supporters, partners and leaders, to help children get ready for and succeed in school – so they can succeed in life. We ensure school is a safe place for children to learn and play, as well as a source for nutritious meals.

To improve foundational reading and comprehension skills, our USDA-funded McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program supports teachers, children, and caregivers through a comprehensive approach that strengthens learning both inside and outside the classroom.

We work to improve the quality of teaching, create more opportunities for children to read and engage with books beyond school, and empower families to actively support learning at home. Together, these efforts ensure children are exposed to consistent, meaningful learning experiences that help build strong literacy skills over time.

Through this initiative, more than 380,000 supplementary reading materials have been distributed to 426 primary schools across six districts, enriching classroom and community learning environments. Over 2,000 teachers are being trained in Save the Children’s Literacy Boost approach, an evidence-based model designed to strengthen reading and writing skills among primary grade children, enabling more child-centred and age-appropriate instruction in the classroom. In addition, 852 Children’s Reading Clubs are being established, with trained teachers and community volunteers leading engaging reading sessions that help children develop a love for reading.

Beyond the classroom, over 2,000 caregivers are being supported with the knowledge and tools they need to actively promote children’s literacy development at home.
