Child Protection Coordinator
SUMMARY
TITLE: Child Protection Coordinator (1 post) TEAM/PROGRAMME: Child ProtectionLOCATION: MabanGRADE: Grade 3 step 1CONTRACT LENGTH: 6 monthsCHILD SAFEGUARDING: (select only one)Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff. ROLE PURPOSE: The Child Protection Coordinator will lead implementation of Child Protection activities with backstopping from Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Thematic Program Manager. Block roles include, Budet management, implementation planning and execution, staff management, project level decision making and local level coordination.In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly. We help them fulfil their potential.Role Dimensions:This role will contribute towards Save the Children’s Child Protection strategic objective that ‘All girls and boys have increased access to child protection services and violence against children is reduced by 2021’ and towards Save the Children’s global breakthrough 2030 ‘Violence against children is no longer tolerated’. KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Work closely with Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Thematic Program Manager to ensure quality implementation and coordination of project activities that contributes to program success.
- Manage BPRM and UNHCR project spendings by accurately phasing budgets, sharing monthly cash forecasts, keeping track of spendings and doing monthly BvA reviews.
- Approve spending on field level activities after reviewing terms of references, procurement requests and petty cash requests.
- Attend project monthly Awards review meetings at filed, area and counyt office levels to ensure projects under this positions responsibility are on track of implementation
- Prepare and monitor implementation of project plans at all levels, ensuring implementation is according to detailed implementation plans.
- Lead in the identification and procurement of materials required to attain project outputs, including support to partners.
- Coordinate with Logistics to ensure timely and safe delivery of supplies allocated to field activities.
- Representation of Save the Children as necessary at community level i.e. County coordination meetings etc and negotiate with local authorites when necessary.
- Write donor reports and share with line manager. Share updates or ay information as may be required by the management, donors and clusters in accordance with information sharing protocol.
- Manage staff performance, capacity strenthening and wellbeing
- Build a solid strong project team that only competes against project deliverables and not with each other.
- Directly line manage project officers and other relevant positions under the projects allocated
- Perform other functions related to Child Protection activities and initiatives that may be assigned by Line Manager.
- Adhere to safeguarding policy and report where necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in social sciences or relevant experience in social work, community development and working with children in Child Protection programme
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- 3 years sectoral experience
- Good English oral and written communication skills
- Fluent in a local language and or Juba Arabic
- Experience in community facilitation and mobilisation
- Good understanding of community politics and traditional networks in program location..
- Excellent technical understanding of child protection and community based approaches.
- Good computer knowledge and skills.
- Be able to prioritise tasks
- Flexibility and ability to work independently and in a team
- Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
- Able to operate in extremely harsh living and working environment
- Gender awareness and sensitivity
- Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
Desirable
- Work experience with children and families, especially knowledge of child rights and participation
- Excellent computer knowledge
- Experience in capacity building
- Previous NGO experience, including an understanding of neutraulity as an international NGO
- Background knowledge in child/ youth protection, education, child rights and emergencies
