AID CUTS: Your support is needed more than ever
Recent cuts to foreign aid are putting millions of children in life-threatening situations. Without additional funding, at least 479 health facilities providing lifesaving healthcare to children across the world are at risk of closure.
"Some of our life-saving centres in Syria will be forced to close due to severe foreign aid cuts. Without immediate support, countless malnourished children will no longer have access to medical care," said Bujar Hoxha, Director of Programs, Save the Children Syria. Overall, these aid cuts will shut down essential nutrition, child protection, and educational programmes across the country.
YOUR $120 GIFT COULD HELP PROVIDE VITAL AID TO A CHILD IN NEED
That is just a small example of the more than 100 programmes that have been impacted by the funding cuts. We have been forced to immediately stop our life-saving work while children are facing extreme hunger in Sudan. While war and heavy fighting continue to rage in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While families in Lebanon and Syria are fighting to survive and rebuild.
We are doing everything we can to fill the gaps and keep lifesaving aid flowing. But we cannot do this alone. Your donation to the Children’s Emergency Fund can help meet the most urgent needs of children today.
DEVASTATING IMPACT OF FUNDING CUTS
Governments across the world are slashing foreign assistance funding at a time when 1 in 11 children worldwide need urgent help, hundreds of thousands are being denied food, medical care, and protection. These cuts mean children will arrive at closed clinics, go without meals, face forced labour or marriage, and suffer trauma alone. The impact is devastating.
Globally, 146 programmes have been impacted by recent cuts in aid. 89 have been fully terminated and the rest have been fully or partially suspended. This will impact approximately 10.3 million people.
We’re running out of time. Without additional funding:
- At least 479 health facilities providing lifesaving healthcare to children across the world are at risk of closure.
- 5 nutrition centres treating children for life-threatening malnutrition will grind to a halt.
- Critical work we’re doing to support children to access safe water and sanitation facilities, essential to keep children healthy and protected from disease, will stop across 10 countries.
- 106,000 births will take place without skilled support, directly contributing to a surge in infant and maternal mortality. In the next three months, 32,500 women and their babies will lose access to antenatal, delivery and postpartum care.
- Across 13 countries, we'll have to stop providing tailored child protection and mental health support, meaning the most at-risk children will be neglected or face grave danger.
- More than 7,100 children in emergency child protection schemes will lose access to services shielding them from family violence, child marriage or other trauma due to aid cuts if new funding is not found.
While the challenges we’re now facing are huge, so is our determination to protect children. We cannot let this happen. Now, more than ever, children need our collective support.
Your donation to the Children’s Emergency Fund can help meet the most urgent needs of children today.
