Through the project “Empowering Persons with Disabilities, with a Special Focus on Children with Disabilities”, Save the Children supported families to turn skills into sustainable livelihoods.
Access to markets is often a big challenge for people, even when they have strong skills. Through the project “Empowering Persons with Disabilities, with a Special Focus on Children with Disabilities”, Save the Children is helping artisans turn their talents into income-generating opportunities.
With the support of SOS Kinderdörfer weltweit and Hermann Gmeiner Fonds Deutschland e.V., we have provided handicraft tools to families with children with disabilities, enabling them to produce items such as carpets, tailoring products, beadwork, and other handmade goods.
To help link these artisans to customers, Save the Children organised a handicrafts tradeshow on 28 April 2026 in Jawzjan province. The event gave beneficiaries a platform to showcase their products, connect directly with buyers, and sell their work in a safe and supportive environment.
The tradeshow attracted a large number of visitors, many of whom purchased products and praised the quality and craftsmanship on display. For participants, the event was an important step towards recognition, confidence, and economic inclusion.
“This day was a great support for us, as it allowed us to showcase our abilities and skills. It also showed that people with disabilities, if given the opportunity, can become self-reliant. We are grateful for providing us with this opportunity,” shared Musawer*, 35, one of the tailors.
