Rehabilitated Clinic Brings Safer Maternal Healthcare to Women in Southern Afghanistan

14 May 2026 Afghanistan

Women in a community in southern Afghanistan now have access to safer, free, and more dignified maternal healthcare through the rehabilitation of a clinic delivery room supported by the Integrated Health Assistance, Maternal and Perinatal Life-Saving Emergencies (IHA MAPLE) project.

Save the Children, with support from the IHA MAPLE project, has rehabilitated a delivery room at one of its clinics to provide easier, safer, and more dignified maternal care.

The upgraded facility now offers free maternity services, including antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care. Essential medical equipment has been installed, improving both readiness and the quality of care. A new disability-friendly latrine has also been constructed, making the clinic more accessible for women and caregivers with disabilities.

Nasren*, a mother from the community, shared:

“The new equipment and the clean delivery room have made a very big difference for our community. Before the rehabilitation, many mothers, including myself, were worried about where we could safely give birth, especially because our families faced financial difficulties. We could not afford private clinics, but because the services are free, mothers like me can safely come for antenatal check-ups, delivery, and postnatal care. This has given me great peace of mind and confidence during my pregnancy.”
