Sanaa* was only four years old when she ended up in a displacement camp in North East Syria. The now eight-year-old has known nothing but the conflict . Living through active fighting, an arduous displacement journey, and difficult living conditions in the camp impacted Sanna, turning her into an introvert; she did not play with other children and had no interest in going to school. This was particularly worrying for her mother who was very keen for Sanaa to continue her education. Believing that Save the Children's approach of integrating education and child protection activities would help Sanaa, her mother Salha enrolled her in one of Save the Children's schools in the camp. Following Sanaa's attendance in both the school and the Child Friendly Space, her mental health started to improve gradually. Now, her mother says the school is her favourite place in the camp. Fidan*, 9, lives in a tent with her mother Yadigar* and father, a year after the earthquake destroyed her home and belongings. Their village is located on the hills of Adıyaman, where transportation is difficult. Their house was destroyed in the earthquakes on February 6th. The family are living in a tent and container (prefabricated shelter) and received winterization support including blankets, heater, electric oven and kettle to help them through the coldest months. Emran is 17 years old and lives in the Garissa region in northern Kenya, a region severely affected by a prolonged drought. The drought has had grave consequences for Emran and his family who are pastoralists. Emran's personal experiences have made him a dedicated climate activist. By spreading knowledge about climate and the environment among his peers, he inspires other young people in his community to take action. With support from Save the Children Emran and his friends has planted trees in school and lobbying local decision-makers to take decisions that benefit the environment in the region. Save the Children supported Emran so he could travel to Nairobi to speak at a major climate conference about the importance of working for a better climate and the devastating consequences of climate change for the people of Garissa.
