BILLUND, Denmark, 8 March 2025 - Ahead of International Women’s Day, Save the Children, the LEGO Foundation and the LEGO Group have released a new video to raise awareness about investing more in girls’ futures at a time when more than 100 million girls are out of school globally.[1]
The video, which features children from around the world including the UK, Mexico, Ethiopia and Ukraine, playing with LEGO® bricks and expressing their creativity, shares that millions of girls are still struggling to be given equal opportunities, education and respect.
While the situation of girls and young women has improved overall, many are still out-of-school due to location, poverty and conflict, among other factors. Girls also often bear a disproportionate burden of household chores, which limits their time for play and creative activities, and affects their self-confidence and aspirations for the future, according to
Save the Children analysis June 2023.
With this in mind, the LEGO Group, the LEGO Foundation and Save the Children launched a ‘
Girls Unstoppable’ programme which has its sights on freeing up girls in China, Indonesia, Mexico and Vietnam from chores and care work and getting them into girls clubs to meet, play, and gain confidence to campaign about issues important to them.
With girls often discouraged from being outspoken or ambitious, the programme aims to directly support over 10,000 girls aged between 10 and 13 by setting up clubs and workshops where they can learn how to advocate for their own rights.
The LEGO Group and LEGO Foundation are crucial partners to achieve Save the Children’s ambition – that all children survive, learn andare protected. In the past decade, we have been collaboratively implementing more than 45 impactful programmes helping hundreds of thousands of children in 29 countries across the globe. Together we are committed to helping children thrive and reach their full potential through quality learning and wellbeing interventions incorporating play, playful approaches, and holistic development.
With learning through play at its core, the programmes born from this collaboration strengthened children’s holistic development by working in hundreds of pre-schools, schools, and child friendly spaces; supporting emergency responses to conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters; and advocated with governments, education institutions and caregivers on the transformative power of playful learning and play-based psychological support.
