Bangladesh's interim leader Muhammad Yunus told the United Nations General Assembly that the Rohingya refugee crisis is on the "brink of collapse" as international aid dries up, urging immediate global action.
Sultana Begum, Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy Lead, said:
"Rohingya children and families remain in limbo – without safety, education, or livelihoods. Stateless and trapped between conflict and exile, they face growing insecurity, shrinking aid, and fading hope, while the world’s attention slips away.
Today’s conference must not be another missed opportunity. Rohingya refugees have been clear: they want safety, education, livelihoods, and basic rights — and the hope of one day returning home in dignity, with their rights guaranteed.
The High-Level Conference must move beyond words, putting Rohingya children’s rights and protection at the heart of meaningful international action, and translating commitments into real, lasting outcomes.”
Save the Children is one of the leading international NGOs working in the Cox’s Bazar camps in Bangladesh, providing child protection, access to learning, health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene services, and distribution of shelter and food items. We have reached more than 600,000 Rohingya refugees, including more than 320,000 children, since the response began in 2017.
