Our CEO Role
Save the Children International announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Helle Thorning-Schmidt on 13 January 2016. Helle will formally join the organisation on 4 April 2016.
Helle will be the head of a global organisation operating in around 120 countries, with tens of thousands of staff working in some of the toughest places in the world, delivering programmes to millions of children, and an annual budget of more than $2 billion USD. The role is comparable with the head of a major UN agency or senior director of the World Bank. Helle's salary will be $295,544 USD. Her total compensation will be $339,931 USD. While we do not attempt to match corporate or UN packages we still need to attract the right talent and leadership skills to ensure that Save the Children International can continue to improve and deliver on its mission for children.
As an organisation with important responsibilities towards our beneficiaries, donors, supporters, staff and the public, we recognise the importance of raising transparency and accountability in all aspects of our work. In October 2015, we released our first annual Accountability Report across Save the Children to help our supporters understand exactly where their money goes. We also welcome the finding of the NCVO enquiry into executive pay and currently employ several of the recommendations given.
