Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will not be achieved by governments and NGOs alone. Fiscal space is constrained, localization commitments remain largely unmet, and children in low-income communities, refugee settings, and rural areas continue to be underserved by traditional financing systems.
Kumwe Hub exists to change that. Launched and incubated by Save the Children International in Rwanda in 2022, Kumwe Hub invests in early-stage, locally led enterprises delivering essential services for children, quality early childhood development, primary healthcare, and foundational digital learning in communities where need is greatest.
Kumwe Hub brings private, market-based delivery models into the child impact gap, not to replace government systems, but to extend them.
Our role is to reach further, faster, and more sustainably, while reducing long-term pressure on public systems.
Kumwe Hub is a market formation bet, taking early-stage risk that commercial capital cannot absorb, build the operational and financial evidence required, and transition enterprises once they are investment-ready. Its success is measured by how many enterprises graduating to commercial capital and continue serving children independently.

Kumwe Hub addresses the gaps in accessing funding for high community impact and child-focused initiatives by providing:
• Tailored and practical capacity strengthening in business, finance, caregiving quality, safeguarding, and service delivery standards,
• Affordable finance through catalytic grants, recoverable grants, and concessional capital designed for early-stage risk.

• Over $1million invested in catalytic capital for child-focused enterprises
• Over 150 enterprises created and/or strengthened
• Over 50,000 children reached through improved services
• 73% average enterprise revenue increase
• Over 120 jobs created in child-focused sectors

Expected breakthroughs by 2030
By 2030, Kumwe Hub aims to reach more than one million children in 10 countries across Africa and beyond through sustainable, locally led service delivery models.
