CHILD PROTECTION
Save the Children proposes to address all forms of violence, neglect, abuse and exploitation against children by providing responsive and preventative services that are inclusive, culturally appropriate and gender sensitive. Save the Children works to achieve this by supporting the strengthening of child protection systems in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda through institutions such as the National Child Development Agency (NCDA) and various other sub-national and local structures.
We continue to implement Child Protection interventions in both emergency, such as refugee camps, transit centres, urban locations, host communities, and development contexts, by providing case management for survivors of abuse, including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
Child Rights Governance
Save the Children in Rwanda supports the government to fulfill children’s rights and commitments. We work with civil society groups and child-led networks to promote accountability and improve legal and policy frameworks for children. We also contribute to build meaningful participation of children and communities in policy and decision-making processes and strengthen the capacity of national child rights organizations to advocate for children’s rights and civic space.
Furthermore, Save the children works with national actors to track governments’ progress in delivering their obligations to children. This includes strengthening capacity of child-led forums and networks and other child rights’ defenders to help monitor child rights commitments and advocate for changes where needed. Different interventions are initiated, such as strengthening the legal protection and the rule of law for children through increasing access to child-friendly justice systems.
