Save the Children Urges Immediate End to Violence Against Children in Somalia

1 Apr 2025 Somalia

PRESS STATEMENT

MOGADISHU, SOMALIA, APRIL 2025 - Save the Children is deeply concerned about the growing violence affecting children in Somalia. Recent clashes have caused serious harm to children, including the latest incident in Teerage village, Mudug region, where four children were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

These acts of violence against children are a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and stand in completely contradiction to Islamic principles that uphold the sanctity of life and the protection of the innocent. The increasing number of children impacted by conflict is unacceptable and must come to an end.

Children in Somalia have the right to a safe and nurturing environment, free from the threat of violence. They deserve access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and the opportunity to experience childhood without fear. No child should bear the consequences of conflict.

Save the Children urgently calls for an immediate cessation of all violence against children. We remind all parties to the conflict of their legal and moral obligations to uphold international humanitarian and human rights laws, ensuring the safety and protection of all children. The recruitment, maiming, and killing of children are egregious violations that must be condemned and stopped.

As a neutral and impartial organization, Save the Children remains committed to supporting children in Somalia. We stand in solidarity with children and will continue working with all partners to ensure their rights are protected, their voices are heard, and their futures are safeguarded.
