Green actions led by young people in Tam Giang, Ca Mau

12 May 2026 Vietnam

In Tam Giang commune, Ca Mau province, young people are taking steady steps to contribute to a greener and more climate-resilient community.

As part of the “My Forest Child” project, Save the Children and local partners have been working with youth groups and community members to carry out green actions in Tam Giang, Ca Mau, including communication activities on climate change and mangrove protection, as well as tree planting initiatives in local areas.

Through these activities, young people are not only learning more about climate risks and the importance of mangrove ecosystems, but also actively sharing this knowledge with their communities. With support from the project, youth participants have strengthened their communication skills, learned how to develop key messages, and explored creative ways to encourage positive changes in awareness and behaviors.

In recent activities, youth and community members came together to plant mangrove trees (“mắm” and “đước”) - natural “green shields” that help reduce coastal erosion, protect the environment, and support sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities. These actions reflect how small but consistent efforts can contribute to long-term resilience in areas highly affected by climate change.

More importantly, the activities have created opportunities for young people to take ownership of their ideas and initiatives. From joining trainings to leading community communication sessions, they are gradually becoming active agents of change in their own communities.

For Save the Children, supporting youth-led climate action is part of a long-term vision: children and young people live in a safe, sustainable environment that is resilient to climate change.
