On 16 May 2026, the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, in collaboration with Save the Children through the Child-Centred Community Development Programme in Lao Cai, officially launched SHIFT 2026, a programme that supports adolescents and young people to develop and implement their own initiatives.

The event brought together representatives from the Department of Education and Training, high schools participating in SHIFT 2026, local Youth Union representatives, as well as more than 80 students and parents. It was not only an opportunity to introduce the implementation plan for SHIFT in 2026, but also a space for students to meet, connect and hear from previous SHIFT groups.

Speaking at the event, a representative from the Department of Education and Training emphasized that children’s participation always requires the support and companionship of adults. Teachers, parents and the wider community should not do things on behalf of children, but instead listen, encourage and create a “safe space” for them to try, learn and grow through their own initiatives.

“When there is a call for registration for SHIFT 2026, I will definitely sign up. I am curious about what the training and Summer Camp will be like, and I am really looking forward to it,” shared Le Hoang, a student attending the event.
SHIFT 2026 is expected to continue opening up opportunities for young people in Lao Cai to raise their voices, and to jointly develop and implement communication initiatives that contribute to positive changes in schools and communities.
Let’s look forward to new ideas, new stories and new journeys from young people in SHIFT Lao Cai in 2026!
