HEALTH & NUTRITION

Our integrated programmes aim to significantly reduce child and neonatal mortality caused by preventable factors through:

 Maternal, newborn and child health : we work to reduce preventable mortality among pregnant women, newborns and children under five. Our actions include strengthening antenatal and postnatal care, improving access to appropriate health services for mothers and children, and preventing and treating the leading childhood illnesses (pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria);

Maternal, infant and adolescent nutrition : we focus on preventing malnutrition from pregnancy through a child’s first two years of life (the 1,000‑day window) by promoting infant and young child feeding (IYCF), providing nutritional support for adolescent girls, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and managing malnutrition, including through approaches such as MAMI (management of at-risk mothers and infants, including malnutrition among infants under 6 months);

Health systems strengthening : we strengthen health system capacity to deliver essential services by working with government, community health workers and local partners to improve policies and financing, health infrastructure, immunisation, and the quality of primary health care;

Integrated multisectoral approaches : we combine health, nutrition and underlying determinants—such as nutrition-sensitive food security, nutrition-sensitive water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), nutrition-sensitive social protection and livelihoods, and social and behaviour change (SBC/SBCC)—to improve household practices;

School health and school-based nutrition : our interventions focus on access to safe drinking water and sanitation in schools, the promotion of healthy behaviours, and screening for malnutrition in school settings;

 Health in emergencies : we respond rapidly during humanitarian crises to provide emergency health care, life-saving nutrition programmes, and vaccination and epidemic prevention;

Integrated protection : health and nutrition outcomes are strengthened through efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV), as well as accountability mechanisms and community-based protection.
