What we do

Save the Children Ethiopia, through its 14 offices across the country, continues to prioritize building resilience and sustainability for families, communities and more importantly, children. We are focusing on child-led and community-led sustainable and scalable change. Where disaster or emergencies happen, we are fostering innovation that combines indigenous and scientific knowledge to support communities and through close partnership with local authorities.

  • Our rapid and anticipatory action (AA) humanitarian work, for instance, taps into national meteorological forecasts and local community weather forecasts to prepare for climatic/weather shocks in advance of them happening. This approach has helped reduce impacts on families and is one of our climate smart key interventions.
  • Our multipurpose cash assistance puts the power back into the hands of women-led households who establish small businesses and are proud to report that they are able to meet their children's and family needs.
  • Child friendly temporary learning spaces, accelerated programmes and school feeding initiatives are helping keep children in safe learning environments. Save the Children in Ethiopia continues to work with the Ministry of Education towards shaping Ethiopia’s national education policy and our partnership with the Lego Foundation is helping young children explore their imagination while also providing parents, caregivers and teachers a better understanding of young children’s mental and developmental needs through early education learning training modalities and techniques.
  • One of our legacy programmes, LEEP, targeted youth through entrepreneurship training and seed funding which helped participants create jobs for themselves and others.
  • Strong partnership with the Ministry of Health in Ethiopia and GSK has spearheaded our ongoing collaborative efforts towards reducing the prevalence of zero-dose and under immunized children across the country.
  • Localization is another key pillar at Save the Children Ethiopia. Across the country, some of our largest footprint programmes/projects are implemented with and through our 22 local partners.
