Save the Children in Myanmar
For over three decades, Save the Children has been working in Myanmar, holding a powerful vision: every child deserves a future. Every day, we help children grow up healthy, learn safely, and live free from harm, including those from the most remote and challenging areas of the country. We ensure children’s unique needs are met and delivered. And their voices are heard.
Our programme areas include child protection, education, food security and livelihoods, health, nutrition, and WASH. Decades of presence in the country and partnership with local partners and with collaboration with local communities have built trust, strengthened local systems, and ensured sustainability. Today, we combine direct implementation with strong local partnerships to create an impact that lasts for children and their communities. We ensure every program we deliver is rooted in one vision: children deserve to grow up safe, educated, and protected.
Since our first step in Myanmar in 1995, Save the Children Myanmar has worked hand-in-hand with communities to protect that promise. And we will continue doing so for every child, every day, especially in times of crisis.

The situation of the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar
Myanmar has been enduring a decades-long history of insecurity and conflicts, which escalated dramatically after 2021, and is gripped by one of the most complex conflicts in the world. Over the years, it gradually evolved into a high-intensity, protracted crisis, spreading rapidly across the country.
More than 45% of the population—16.2 million people, including 5 million children—are in desperate need of aid. Over 3.7 million people have been displaced from their homes. Many of the displaced are left without adequate shelter, exposed to harsh weather, and struggling to survive in increasingly dire conditions. The deteriorating humanitarian situation has seriously compromised the protective environment for children, disrupting community support systems, and limiting access to essential services such as education, nutrition, healthcare, and child protection
The impact on children is particularly harrowing. Children are experiencing distress, anxiety, depression, and fear, leading to both immediate and long-term psychological and social suffering for them and their caregivers.
Compounding the crisis, Myanmar is also highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate-fueled disasters, such as seasonal cyclones and flooding, which have become more frequent in recent years. Adding an additional strain on the already exhausted country’s infrastructure, on March 28, 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar, resulting in over 3,800 reported deaths, more than 5,000 injuries and displacing approximately 200,000 people, exacerbating the already critical situation.
Myanmar's children need our collective support now more than ever. Save the Children is on the ground, doing everything possible to support affected communities and delivering humanitarian assistance with unwavering commitment to impartiality and neutrality, ensuring that children have the chance to survive, learn, and be protected.
