Keeping children safe online

On 24 April 2026, the Award Ceremony of the “Students with Cyber Security 2026” competition was held, marking the conclusion of a meaningful journey to strengthen students’ awareness and skills in staying safe online.

A safe digital environment is not only built by technology, but by how we, as adults, show up and stay connected with children every day.

In recent weeks, we have once again seen what happens when powerful AI tools are released at scale with weak safeguards. People use them to sexualise and humiliate others, and children end up dealing with the consequences.Smart tech must come with safe choices built-in. AI can bring extraordinary benefits, but no innovation is worth a world where children have to live with the fear that any photo could be weaponised against them.

The nationwide “Not Alone – Together for Online Safety” campaign concluded in January 2026, marking a year-long effort to promote a safer digital environment for children and adolescents in Vietnam. As a campaign partner, Save the Children contributed to raising awareness, strengthening digital skills, and empowering children to protect themselves online, while continuing to work with partners to build a safe, inclusive, and trustworthy digital space for all children.

One in 5 young people in Spain said images of them naked created with Artificial Intelligence were shared online without their consent when they were under 18 and nearly all reported sexual violence of some kind online, according to a Save the Children study.

We have worked with Save the Children’s experts in online safety to develop tips for parents, teachers, leaders of children’s clubs, social workers and anyone else who may interact with teenagers to help them stay safe online.
