OUR WORK
Our Priorities
In the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe, Save the Children works to ensure children survive, learn and are protected, guided by children’s rights and delivered in partnership with communities and local actors. Our regional priorities focus on health and nutrition, child protection, education, alongside life-saving humanitarian response and long-term recovery.
Murad*, an 8 -month- old child from Taiz, Yemen, was born into a family facing difficult living conditions due to the ongoing conflict and economic crisis. During her pregnancy, Fatima* lacked adequate nutrition that later contributed to Murad* developing severe acute malnutrition. Murad* was referred to the local health centre after a visit from a community health worker. At the centre he received life-saving nutritional treatment and medical care. Fatima* received awareness sessions on breastfeeding and attended weekly follow-ups. Over time, Murad*’s health improved and his weight increased. Ahmed Al Basha / Save the Children
Health & Nutrition
We support children, mothers and newborns to access essential health and nutrition services across MENAEE, including life-saving care in conflict-affected and hard-to-reach settings, helping children and mothers survive and grow healthy.
In collaboration with local partner Tadamon, Save the Children conducted a Healing and Education Through the Arts (HEART) session aimed at helping children express emotions and build resilience through creative activities. Held in a community classroom setting, the session brought together children who used drawing as a tool to process feelings and explore positive themes like safety, belonging, and hope. The event is part of Save the Children’s ongoing psychosocial support efforts to promote healing and self-expression in a safe and nurturing environment. Jean Hatem / Save the Children
Child Protection & Wellbeing
We create safe, nurturing environments where children are protected from harm, supported to recover from crisis, and empowered to grow up free from violence and fear.Shape
Samah*, 14, from Taiz, has grown up amid years of conflict that disrupted her education and endangered her safety. Her school was repeatedly damaged by shelling, forcing classes to move to temporary buildings. Despite these challenges, she remains determined to continue her studies and advocates for safe schools and children’s right to education. AHMED ALBASHA/ Save the Children
Education, Resilience & Child Rights
We make sure learning never stops, helping children access safe, inclusive education while strengthening communities and systems to protect children’s rights and build lasting resilience.
