In a heartfelt tribute to one of the nation's most revered leaders, Save the Children in Bangladesh came together on August 15th to commemorate National Mourning Day. The organization's employees gathered as one family to remember and celebrate the life and achievements of the great leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On this solemn occasion, the air was filled with a sense of unity and reverence as the employees paid their respects to the visionary leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the destiny of Bangladesh.

When 16-year-old Lily’s house was flooded in southern Mozambique in the early hours of the morning, she fled with her family to a nearby school, which was converted into an evacuation centre. Many of the family’s possessions were washed away and one of their building partially collapsed. While at the evacuation centre, Lily joined Save the Children’s Child Friendly Space and received training in handwashing and water treatment from the Emergency Health Unit. One week after devastating twin earthquakes, communities in the affected areas are facing severe humanitarian needs. Many people have been displaced because their homes were damaged, destroyed, or are considered unsafe, forcing families to live in temporary settlements and tents. Urgent assistance is needed, including shelter, clean water, food, healthcare and psychological support, particularly for children. Save the Children, together with partners, is providing emergency services such as child-friendly safe spaces and health support, but significant additional resources are required to meet the growing needs of affected populations.
