TRANSFORMING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS FOR CHILDREN

13 Mar 2025 Uganda

In Amuru District, learners at Agole Primary School started the new school year in a safe learning environment with the support of Transforming the Future with and For Children program funded by The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).

Following previous reports from the District Education Office of Amuru district, and joint monitoring visits by key stakeholders it was found that the classroom block roof had been blown off for an extended period of time and learning was affected as children were sitting under trees and exposed to harsh weather conditions.

“Our school has the highest number on enrolment in the district and this year the enrolment has grown from 1,436 learners last year to 2,096 this year. It is evident that such initiatives like these that improve the school environment will enhance the children’s learning.” Mr. Isaac Omony-Headteacher stressing the need for urgent renovation.

In consultation with the district, Save the Children supported the renovation of the classroom and a store at Agole Primary School. The renovation has provided safer, more comfortable, and fully roofed classrooms for the children, marking an improvement in their learning experience.

“I am very happy that we now have a new class with good wall and windows where we are going to study from. Our school now looks good with new classrooms. I think my friends in P 3 are all going to be happy that we have a new classroom”, says Achan- a learner at the school.

Accelerating attainment of literacy, numeracy and safe learning while ensuring children enrol and complete the respective levels of education remains a priority for Save the Children. With funding from NORAD Save the Children is implementing a 5-year program, “Transforming the future for and with Children” that aims to ensure all children enjoy their rights to in a safe, inclusive and resilient environment.
