Lara*, 7, Syria.

When Lara was told that she was leaving her home...

...she put her toys in a bag and carried them with her on her first journey as a refugee. She decided she wouldn't open her bag of toys until her family were back home.

Lara and her family now live in a tent that doesn’t protect them from the cold in the winter nor from the heat in the summer. Lara’s mother worries that her daughter is struggling to accept their situation. Her parents also fear that being out of school will impact her wellbeing and that she'll end up illiterate. Lara has started attending a learning centre run by Save the Children's partners in the camp.

Looking to the future, Lara dreams of becoming a teacher to help other children who are out of school.

For children like Lara, all they have known is conflict. This is a massive, complex crisis. But for Syrian children, they just want to be safe.

Save the Children has been there for Syrian children since the beginning. Your monthly support means we can be there for as long as they need us.
