Between 10 and 14 November 2025, Save the Children held a workshop based on the 'Girls Decide' approach as part of the ECHO CP project to empower girls in migration and displacement contexts. The event trained participants to promote mental resilience, practical skills, and community support, addressing critical protection issues such as GBV and CPI in northern Mozambique, and highlighting the importance of Safeguarding and PSEA.
Between 10 and 14 November 2025, a workshop was held as part of the Girls Decide Programme, an initiative by Save the Children aimed at empowering girls in contexts of migration and displacement. The event was attended by the organisation's staff and community activists, reinforcing the collective commitment to the protection and promotion of children's rights.
The main objective of the training was to enable participants to implement strategies that promote:
- Mental resilience among girls, helping them face challenges arising from displacement.
- Practical skills and life skills, enabling informed and safe decisions.
- Community support and advocacy, to ensure safer journeys and better outcomes for vulnerable girls.
Northern Mozambique faces a protection crisis, marked by high rates of gender-based violence (GBV) and child protection issues (CPI), including early marriage, abuse, neglect, and children separated from or associated with armed forces. The training addressed these critical issues, also highlighting the importance of Safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), identified as priority gaps by the Protection Cluster.
The workshop strengthened participants' capacity to support displaced girls, promoting safe environments and effective protection strategies. It is expected that the acquired learning will be applied in communities, contributing to reducing harmful practices such as early marriage and expanding access to protection services.
