Health and Nutrition

Since 1986, we have been committed to delivering high-quality health and nutrition services for families worldwide including Tanzania.  

  • Over 2382 premature and low birthweight newborns in Tanzania have benefited from Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) through Save the Children's initiatives, promoting skin-to-skin contact and exclusive breastfeeding to improve survival and health outcomes. 

  • Additionally, over 1,262, 566 million newborns have benefited from essential newborn care services, including skilled birth attendance, early initiation of breastfeeding, and life-saving interventions for complications, ensuring a healthy start in life. Over 1290708 million children under five have been reached with growth monitoring and promotion services, supporting early detection of growth faltering and providing tailored advice to enhance child health and development. 

  • More than 2150241 million women of reproductive age have received nutrition counselling, with many adopting diets that meet minimum dietary diversity standards.  

  • Over 1,285,092 million children under five have been screened for malnutrition, with eligible children receiving life-saving management for acute malnutrition.  

  • A total of 919,789 clients have accessed family planning services, including many youth, adolescents, and first-time mothers. 

  • Over 993,038 individuals benefited from nutrition-sensitive programming, addressing the underlying causes of malnutrition, including improved agriculture, WASH, and family planning services.  

  • Over 18, 539 individuals received SBC interventions, including IPC and Community Scorecard, enhancing the uptake of MDA campaigns for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), improving health-seeking behaviours and fostering healthier, disease-free communities.
