Boma primary's pupils in their classes studying before Toys Distribution. Save the Children (SC) has partnered with Spin Master to support activities that provide timely, quality protection and education services to children in Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps and host communities in western Tanzania, while strengthening coping mechanisms and resilience for girls and boys through access to Child Friendly Spaces and migrant houses where children receive age appropriate and gender responsive psychosocial support. Through this partnership, Save the Children will leverage play materials and toys. The program will complement Save the Children’s child protection and education work, providing an avenue for children to interact with peers, learn through play, and access psychosocial support. Caregivers, facilitators, parents, and other child protection stakeholders will be oriented on Child Rights and the Play On! Amani A. Dawai/ Save the Children

Nancy Kasembo, former National Junior Council leader, is pictured alongside Tanzania’s Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Hon. Nancy is one of the children empowered by Save the Children since her fifth grade in Shinyanga Region. Through her active participation in children’s councils, Nancy gained the confidence that eventually led her to become the leader of the National Junior Council. Currently, Nancy is volunteering in the Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications, and Media department at Save the Children while pursuing her college education, continuing her commitment to making a difference for children. Maria (10 yrs), Ng'obi (9 yrs), and Mary (12 yrs) live with their grandmother after their mother left, unable to stay due to domestic violence. Together, they support their aging grandmother, whose failing eyesight makes daily tasks difficult. Every day, they fish for sardines in a nearby pond, wading into deep water with a mosquito net, and search for baobab fruit under the blazing sun to bring food home. “We don't go to school because we don’t have anyone to pay our fees, and who will take care of Grandma if we leave?” Maria explains. Despite the hardships, they remain hopeful. Through Save the Children’s Lishe Yangu, Maisha Yangu project, the family recently received a goat, a gift that brings a glimmer of hope. “We will care for this goat like family,” Maria says with gratitude. Ng'obi smiles as he adds, “We will use the goat’s milk for cooking vegetables, and it will also help us as we will be drinking the milk.” For these children, this small act of kindness offers a lifeline to better nutrition and a brighter future. Relentless rains and the partial collapse of Mount Hanang triggered a devastating mudslide that engulfed Tanzania's Hanang District, leaving a trail of destruction and displacing hundreds. Save the Children secured a total of $400,000 towards the response. In response to the overwhelming impact on affected communities, Save the Children took immediate action to alleviate the suffering of the affected population and initiate a prompt and effective emergency response. Save the Children, in collaboration with the Zanzibar Child Rights Forum, organized a sports festival for children with disabilities on June 9, 2024. The aim was to ensure their inclusion in social activities and to educate the community about children with disabilities. Amani Dawai/Save the Children

Save the Children Tanzania, through its various projects and campaigns, has been actively involving children in the process of learning and establishing tree nurseries. These nurseries provide trees that are planted in various locations, including schools and the surrounding communities. By using native tree species in the nursery preparation, this initiative ensures long-term sustainability, even after Save the Children’s projects conclude in these areas.
