As part of the ECHO SAIL II Project and in response to the damage caused by Cyclone Chido, Save the Children International (SCI), in coordination with the Chiúre District Government, carried out the inspection and provisional acceptance of rehabilitation and construction works for school infrastructure in the districts of Mecúfi and Chiúre. The inspections, conducted between 19 and 21 November 2025, aimed to verify technical compliance and ensure quality standards, with continuous monitoring planned for six months.
As part of the ECHO SAIL II Project and in response to the damage caused by Cyclone Chido, which occurred on 15 December 2024, a survey of the needs for improving school infrastructure was carried out in the districts of Mecúfi and Chiúre. Based on these surveys, various rehabilitation and construction actions for educational infrastructure were implemented, with the aim of re-establishing adequate conditions of safety, functionality, and resilience in the affected schools.
With the completion of contractual activities for some lots, it became necessary, in coordination between Save the Children International (SCI) and the Chiúre District Government, to proceed with the inspection and provisional acceptance of the executed works. This stage had the following main objectives:
- To verify the technical compliance of the works carried out;
- To confirm the completion of the works and formalise the provisional acceptance of the infrastructures;
- To identify possible deficiencies, outstanding issues, or needs for improvement;
- To ensure that minimum standards of quality, safety, and durability were observed.
The inspections were conducted between 19 and 21 November 2025 and included the participation of the following entities:
- District Service of Education, Youth and Technology (SDEJT)
- District Service of Planning and Infrastructure (SDPI)
- Save the Children International
- Chelton Construções
- MEL Construções
- CNF Construções
During this process, the following infrastructures were provisionally accepted:
- Chiote Primary School – Rehabilitation of four classrooms and construction of TLS;
- Nacivare Basic School – Rehabilitation of a conventional building with two classrooms;
- Megaruma B Primary School – Construction of two classrooms in TLS.
The works carried out incorporated improvements related to accessibility, inclusion, and comfort, as well as other structural adaptations necessary to ensure greater safety and suitability for the needs of the school community.
The provisional acceptance showed significant progress in the execution of the planned interventions. However, continuous monitoring of the infrastructures is foreseen during the six-month warranty period, starting from the date of provisional acceptance, in order to ensure full compliance of the works and their subsequent definitive acceptance.
