OFFICIAL LAUNCH "Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Communities through Education Sector" Project

14 Jan 2026 Global

H.E. Dr. Nath Bunroeun, Secretary of State of MoEYS and high representative of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport attended the Official Launch Ceremony of the "Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Communities through Education Sector" (BRACE) Project. The event was also attended by H.E. Meas Chantida, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, Mr. Hong Reaksmey, Save the Children in Cambodia's Country Director, Mr. Nick Ireland, Climate Change Director of Save the Children Australia and leaders from MoEYS and the Ministry of Environment, development partners, and technical officials from relevant departments.

Through a partnership between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and Save the Children in Cambodia, this initiative aims to transform 240 primary schools across Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Cham, and Koh Kong provinces into safe and climate-resilient learning environments. This project is supported by @GCFOfficial (GCF) and @Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

While the BRACE project is officially launched today, our mission does not end here. Implementation, coordination, and continued commitment are essential to ensure that this investment yields meaningful and long-lasting results.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) is committed to leading this initiative by working closely with the Ministry of Environment, Save the Children Cambodia, and all partners to ensure implementation that is effective, accountable, and driven by Cambodian ownership.

Together, we must ensure that a climate-resilient education system becomes a core pillar of educational planning, resource mobilization, and implementation. This will allow every child in Cambodia to continue their learning safely, even when faced with climate challenges or other environmental risks.

The BRACE project intervention aligns with national development priorities and Cambodia’s international commitments by supporting the National Climate Strategy, contributing to the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), and recognizing education as a vital sector in helping Cambodia achieve its 2030 and 2050 goals of becoming a carbon-neutral developed nation.

Once again, Secretary of State he would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Environment for their constant support, as well as to all relevant ministries, institutions, and partners for their leadership, collaboration, and collective commitment to the education sector, and in conclusion, he wish Your Excellencies, Ladies, and Gentlemen happiness, prosperity, and success in all your endeavors. May you be blessed with the four gems of Buddhist blessings: Longevity, Nobility, Health, and Strength.
